Learned ghost notes and combining drum fills
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Few days are gone i was very frustrated because i couldn't play drums as my semester exams are going on but still i am able to manage some time for practice. So , lesson i learned was about playing ghost notes and second lesson was about combining different drum fills i already know. Below is what i learned
1 : Ghost notes
Ghost notes are more felt than played on drums , they can be played with quarter notes , 8th notes , 16th notes and even 32th notes. Now to play a ghost note what actually to be done is to keep your stick low on snare drum and just release it to rest on drum it will make a very low sound. Its notation is
So , i practiced to play ghost notes and it was quite easy to play with simpler notes but when played with 16th notes when there are accented snare hits too its gets a little difficult to play notes so what the point of advice here is if there are accented snare hit then we keep our stick low to the snare head and play the whole beat that helps a lot and avoid confusions.
CONCLUSION- I think ghost are fun to play and brings a whole new feel to a simpler drums beats like if i add ghost notes with basic rock drum beat it sounds extremely different and more catchy. Below is an similar exercise i did with ghost notes , don't get scared there are no real ghosts -:
2: COMBING DIFFERENT DRUM FILLS
What i fell about drum fills is without a drum fill , groove will sound very boring it will be just one solid groove going on so drums adds a different path to the groove and sounds amazing but some times it may looses the feel of groove if you play a faster drum fill with slower drum beat or very slow , so it should be avoided there should be balance in both. Now i know around just five drum fills as i am just a beginner so i learned to break my drum fill take part of them and combine them to form a whole new drum fill , this can give rise to hundreds and thousands of drum fills , what i did was i took four part of drum fills from few drum fills names them as A,B,C,D pattern and created drum fills ABDC,ACBD,ADCB,ADBC,BDAC and so on.
This lesson was very fun but this is just not one day lesson i have to learn new drums combine them with other fills and come up with a new drum fills.
My semester exams are just about to be finished then i will just dive on my drums for practice and do my best.
SORRY, I am not posting video of me playing AC-DC back in black as i said in previous post because i have ordered Meinl HCS 16inch Crash which i will be receiving by end of this month. So, i will post video in future after i receive my cymbals and few other accessories.
